Portuguese photographer Fernando Marante wins Paris Photo award - Showbiz

In addition to the Portuguese artist, three other projects – all from the United Kingdom – were also distinguished, among applications from over 200 European photography schools.

Winners of this award will see their work displayed on giant screens at Gare du Nord, one of the largest Parisian train stations, from October 10 to November 20, and in a dedicated space during Paris Photo, which will be held at the Grand Palais. .

Although it is not common to show works in train stations, the artist is confident that his works adapt to the space. "My work has a very pictorial nature, with the nature of the image itself, so it seems to me that my images can adapt well to a public space like this," explained Fernando Marante.

Prior to these performances in the French capital, the exhibition "The question concerning the thing" will be on show from September 19th to October 26th at Galeria Modulo in Lisbon. The photographer acknowledges that a trip to Paris will be "important".

"It is important to reach other audiences. In Portugal things are going well, but the universe is limited. Being able to show the work in Paris brings contacts and expose the work to collectors and interested people," said Fernando Marante.

Paris Photo will bring together 213 exhibitors from 31 different countries where more than 1000 photographers from around the world will be represented. Lisbon's galleries Carlos Carvalho and Filomena Soares will be present in this edition. In 2020, this show will be held for the first time in New York, April 2-5.
