The president of the Cape Verdean Athletics Federation (FCA) said on Saturday that national athletics is taking a "step back in budgetary terms" and therefore warned the Directorate General of Sport to "review the financing system" of the federations.
Alfredo Lima made these considerations to Inforpress during the national championship in the U-18 and U-20 that are taking place at the National Stadium in Achada de São Filipe, where he expressed his concern about the proposal of the program contract and that the Ministry of Sport proposes 1500 contos for the U20 and Senior Championships for sporting and club regions.
"It's very derisory. To get an idea, we spent about 1600 contos only on tickets in this U-20 championship, "said Lima, who warned the sports entities for this mediation that" calls into question the national and modality tests. "
Another apprehension expressed by this leader was the way the athletes of the islands of Fogo and Brava were left out of the race, due to lack of places in the air / sea connections to the capital.
He regretted that, despite all the work done by his delegations on all the islands, "because of transportation" there were no places for the athletes of these islands to travel to Praia City, when it is known that the "ferryboat was stopped for four days ".
He said he hoped that "there would be a solution to the inter-island transport", so he was not content with the way in which athletes were retained on the islands due to their lack of opportunity to compete equally with their colleagues from other parts of the country.
The federation leader said that this national championship, which involves more than 70 athletes, is being carried out as part of an Olympic Solidarity project, a way found to overcome the lack of signing the program contract with the Directorate-General for Sports.
As for the development of the competition, he praised the logistic conditions found in the National Stadium, where all the committees are housed.
The U-18 and U-20 track national is being played in the disciplines of the 100 meters, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 meters, in both men's and women's, long jump and feminine) and Olympic relay.
This third edition of the U-18 and U-20 national championships will select the athletes for the Cape Verdean team that will represent the country at the Islands Games scheduled for mid-May on the island of Corsica.
