Provisional pensions reach more people as of tomorrow – The Jornal Econômico

From Saturday, more people will receive provisional pensions of old age, disability and survival, after the Government has published in Diário da República the decree-law that intends to simplify the administrative procedures of allocation of pensions.

After the creation of the regime of very long contributory careers and technological developments, with the creation of the simulators, the Executive considered that it was also important to proceed with this "debureaucratization". For example, invalidity pensions, which until now were confined to those receiving sickness allowances, which had exhausted the maximum time limit for entitlement, were extended. In the case of provisional survivors' pensions, they are no longer intended only for citizens in situations of economic need.

"There is also a change in the legal regime of liability arising from undue payment of benefits, the main objectives being to introduce mechanisms to speed up the recovery of undue payments, on the one hand, and reduce the risk of undue payments, on the other hand, in particular by extending the possibility of payment to Social Security through benefit plans, as well as by extending the universe of persons responsible for repayment of sums wrongly paid, "the document states.

The decree-law in question, which enters into force as of tomorrow, also establishes the possibility that descendants with a right to a survivor's pension can take the school test through direct social security. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to deliver the statement of the educational establishment in paper format.

The diploma published today was enacted by the President of the Republic last week. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa thus gave the 'ok' amendment of the legal protection regimes in the event of invalidity, old age and death of the general social security system, which arose after the Court of Auditors concluded that Social Security paid EUR 4 million between 2016 and 2017 in pensions to beneficiaries who had already died several years ago.
