The Social Democratic Party (PSD) will join the left to comply with the decree-law that aims to partially count the time of service of teachers. The Communist Party (PCP), the Left Bloc (BE) and the PSD believe that counting only two of the nine frozen career years is insufficient and they want to review the move in Parliament, the Público newspaper said on Monday.
The parties have the possibility of requesting appreciation in Parliament of legislative decrees approved by the Council of Ministers, which do not necessarily pass through the Assembly of the Republic. This is what the PSD, PCP and BE promise to do if the President of the Republic promulgates the decree-law of the time of service of teachers. The PCP and BE have already assumed that, after parliamentary consideration, they will vote in favor of annulling the decree.
The same guarantees the PSD. Social Democrats believe that counting two years, nine months and 18 days, as the government proposes, falls short of expectations and counts the total of the nine frozen years. The decree-law in question was approved on October 4 and has not yet arrived in Belém for the promulgation of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. According to the newspaper "Expresso", "the presidential dilemma is 50% -50%", and there are still doubts as to whether or not to promulgate it.
