Public officials have time off to accompany minor children on the first day of classes – The Economic Journal


The Council of Ministers approved this Thursday, June 13, the decree-law that allows public administration workers to justify their work to accompany children who are under 12 years of age, on the first day of the school year .

The approval of the decree-law is part of 'Program 3 en Line', and according to the communiqué 'this measure meets the objective of promoting a better balance between personal and professional life', and seeks' to improve the well- being of workers ".

The Minister of the Presidency and Administrative Modernization, Mariana Vieira da Silva, admits that this new regime applies "to all workers of the central, regional and local public administration" which has "a public employment relationship governed by the General Labor Law in Functions Public ".

The updating of this program then expects the reconciliation of professional, personal and family life, representing "a joint effort of the Government, public and private companies, and entities of the central and local Public Administration."

Thus, the measure also arises with the intention of "encouraging practices that favor a better life-work balance" and to promote "greater equality between women and men."
