Twelve students from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon will reinvent traditional arts in the municipality of Castro Marim, within the framework of the RésVés artistic residence.
The students were received by the executive of the Municipality of Castro Marim and will remain in the territory, namely in the parishes of Castro Marim and Odeleite, until July 25.
The RésVés is the 9th activity of the cycle of artistic residencies of this faculty, whose work is "to link tradition to originality, respecting local culture and heritage but trying to instill new readings", in a multidisciplinary approach that goes on by multimedia art, sculpture, contemporary photography and curatorship.
The main objective is to "value and promote artistic production as an engine of economic development, combat social exclusion and improve the quality of life of communities, through cultural training and increased self-esteem."
During the next ten days, students will get to know the salinas of Castro Marim and the whole process of artisanal extraction of salt and flower and contact with various types of crafts and art that exist in the county, such as tabua, weaving, the bobbins, painting, sculpture in iron and typography.
Working individually or in groups, students should develop artistic projects that effectively enhance and respect the culture and heritage of Castro Marim, leaving physically, objects or projects of community interaction in the place, which will include the organization of an exhibition at Casa do Sal, in Castro Marim.
ResVés is a project developed in partnership with the Odeleite Town Council and the Municipal Council of Castro Marim in a partnership of the University of Lisbon with a municipal investment in the preservation and social and cultural reintegration of the intangible heritage of the county.
