O Spanish Vicente García de Mateos (Aviludo-Louletano), fourth overall of the 81st Tour of Portugal by bicycle, today abandoned the race, in the ninth stage, between Fafe and the top of Senhora da Graça.

The Spaniard, who was 34 seconds behind the yellow jersey, Jóni Brandão (Efapel), got into the team's car in tears when it was about 47 kilometers away.

The sports director, Jorge Piedade, explained to Lusa that 30 year old cyclist is sick, with an indisposition, and spent the night badly, reason that leads to the resignation of the line leader of the Algarve formation.

Third in 2017 and 2018, the Spaniard leaves the 81st edition in the 'queen stage', between Fafe and Senhora da Graça, at 133.5 kilometers, the penultimate before Sunday's time trial, between Vila Nova de Gaia and the Port.
