Infraquinta handed over a sum of 2500 euros this Thursday to the Temporary Nursing Home "Os Miúdos" of the House of Early Childhood, an amount raised under the "Refill Water Quinta do Lago" campaign. The moment was symbolically marked by the Mayor of Loulé, Vitor Aleixo, President of Infraquinta, Miguel Piedade, and head of the institution, José Teiga.
For a week at The Campus, a sports center integrated into this tourist resort, € 1 worth of reusable Infrapinta bottles that can be “refilled” were sold, thus ensuring a reduction in plastic consumption.
In five days, 630 bottles were made available, an average of 125 per day, and close to 500 liters of water for people who were practicing sports and who were refilling water at the source provided by Infraquinta. As pointed out by the head of this municipal company, the double objective of the campaign was achieved: promote water consumption and reduce plastic (this action prevented 300 plastic bottles per day).
Already Vítor Aleixo, underlined the importance of this initiative that combines two fundamental aspects of municipal policy, the concern with environmental issues and social causes. “Children are the key factor in changing mindsets!” Said the head of the Early Childhood House.
The money raised will now be channeled to the work that the “Os Miúdos” Welcome House is developing. It is recalled that this private social solidarity institution, operating for 21 years, is a mixed residence that aims to ensure the care of children in distress due to abandonment, abuse, neglect, among other factors, and which are indicated CPCJ and Social Security, thus ensuring the consecration of their rights and guarantees. There are currently 12 children in this House, aged between 0 and 12, of both sexes, but over the years about 200 children have passed through this House. The multidisciplinary team accompanying minors is made up of 8 members.
