Ricardo Teodósio and José Teixeira debuted on the asphalt of the Rally Alto Tâmega, disputed on the roads of Chaves and Boticas, with a 3rd place in the overall classification and the victory on the Power Stage for the Portuguese Rally Championship (CPR), continuing the duo Team Vito Skoda motivated to fight for the title.
The national champions in title had never raced in the Chaves and Boticas specials, but were soon the fastest in Qualifying on Saturday. The first section even went according to the expectations of Ricardo Teodósio and José Teixeira; however, during the second stage, an incident with a dog on the road affected the Skoda Fabia R5 Evo duo's concentration, who lost precious time. Thereafter, Teodósio and Teixeira concentrated on securing 3rd place in the rally and winning the Power Stage, to accumulate additional points for the championship.
“We were confident and I think we even got on well in the rally”, said Ricardo Teodósio. “Unfortunately, on the second stage we caught a dog on the road and had to do an emergency maneuver, something that made us uneasy. We lost about 25 seconds on that section and, in such a disputed rally, that was crucial. We tried to make up for lost time but at some point we realized that it was better to target our tire strategy to try to win the Power Stage at CPR, which we did. From here on, our margin of error in the championship is zero and we will try to win the three remaining rallies ”, said the Algarve driver, who at the Rally Alto Tâmega got the third podium of 2020.
The Portugal Rally Championship will continue on asphalt, but will now head to Marinha Grande and the Rally Vidreiro / Centro de Portugal, which will take place on 9 and 10 October.
