Rui Vitoria returned to Portugal on Thursday, after being crowned champion in Saudi Arabia by Al Nassr. Speaking to reporters, the former Benfica coach admits he was "happy for his friends" who celebrated the 37th, but prefers to highlight the title won by the Saudis.
"I also participated [no título do Benfica], but it gave me great pleasure to be Saudi Arabia's champion. One weekend I changed clubs and it was a huge risk, but I understood that I would try another championship. What I know is that I ended up being happy, it was a very tasty title, outside our country. I'm a Saudi Arabian champion and that's what makes me happy, "said Rui Vitoria, at Lisbon Airport, on arrival for a vacation.
"We left Benfica when we had to leave," he said. "We often have to change the road to get to the path we want and that's what happened, fortunately both sides were successful in the end. [a mudança] it was a fast, a huge risk, on a weekend I changed clubs. I ended up being happy, "said the coach, who has in mind to return to Portugal, but not for now.
"I have another year of contract and I was very well received at the club.It is a country that is different from the image that people usually have.I left satisfied, expectations were not so high when I got there," he explained.
Asked about João Félix, Rui Vitória said: "He is a great player, like many others that Benfica have."
