The Sagres Fortress will be honored as "International Place of Culture and Peace", in a public ceremony taking place on December 10, in the auditorium of Fortaleza itself, at 2:30 p.m.
The International Human Rights Observatory (OIHD) awards the distinction in the creation of a global solidarity network. In particular, there will be the purposes of global citizenship in favor of Peace and the recognition of some outstanding monuments, now recognized as spaces of Culture and Peace.
The ceremony also serves as a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and of the 40th anniversary of Portugal's accession to the European Convention on Human Rights.
The agenda includes the presence of Dr. Maria Luisa Francisco, OIHD adviser, Professor Alexandra Rodrigues Gonçalves, Regional Director of Culture of the Algarve and the representative of the Vila do Bispo City Council executive.
The International Observatory on Human Rights, with its world headquarters in Portugal, is a non-profit, free and independent organization. It promotes and participates in different national and international actions and has as its principle the dignity of the human person, according to it, "absolute value and as a primary objective, the ceaseless defense of the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights".
