São Brás de Alportel is the first Portuguese municipality to have its school park totally free of asbestos, after having removed the fiber cement sheets from its schools, the local authority announced.
The Secretary of State for Education, Susana Amador, was on Friday, 11, in São Brás de Alportel, following the preparation for the start of an academic year that is expected to be “particularly challenging”.
The governor also followed the last day of the works to remove the fiber cement slabs from Schools EB 2.3 Poeta Bernardo Passos and Secundária José Belchior Viegas.
The intervention "makes São Brás de Alportel the first Portuguese municipality to have its school park totally free of this type of material", stressed the São Brasense municipality.
Susana Amador gave a positive note to the municipality, which she considered to be a “reference municipality also in the area of education, where the connection of the municipality to schools and the Ministry of Education is done in a very complementary and healthy way”.
The program of the visit of the Secretary of State included a visit to the school park, followed by a meeting in the main hall of the chamber, where the director of the School Group José Belchior Viegas, Nídia Amaro, and other members of the board, the mayor Vitor Guerreiro, participated. , Vice President Marlene Guerreiro and Regional Director of Education, Alexandre Lima.
“A meeting that allowed the Secretary of State to become aware of the local reality and the challenges that the municipality and the group intend to achieve, always in favor of a teaching of excellence that does not end with knowledge, but that aims above all to be a school of values ”, Emphasizes the socialist executive.
It was also possible to share work practices and collaboration between the group and the municipality, as well as the challenges that are emerging and that they try to overcome in order to “ensure the best education for students and the best working conditions for professionals in this area” .
Susana Amador said that São Brás de Alportel is part of a roadmap of visits to public schools carried out in the last few days, in the sense that the government is “together” with schools, municipalities and principals.
"In order to understand all the organic aspects of the school year and to understand how our instructions sent in July were implemented," explained the Secretary of State after visiting the school park in São Paulo.
Susana Amador stressed that the Ministry of Education made “a strong bet on the individual protection of professionals and students”, to which is added the necessary investment so that the school year “can be successful in its educational mission and the formation of new generations” .
Admitting that "there is no zero risk", the governor reaffirmed that "the school is not an increased risk and that the closure of the school, as the General Health Directorate says, will always be the last option".
