The Alentejo Scholarship for Artists and Creators (BACA), an initiative by Lendias d'Encantar (LdE), which already has 40 proposals, will continue until the end of April after receiving a reinforcement of the available budget.
The reinforcement, in the total amount of 12,000 euros, came from CADAC – Companhia Alentejana de Dança Contemporânea and from the Regional Directorate of Culture of Alentejo, who join LdE in this measure that aims to support more structures and artists from the Alentejo region.
The scholarship provides for the purchase of shows with a view to mitigating the damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic to independent artists and companies without support from the Alentejo, who are "unable to work" following the state of emergency enacted.
LdE, a professional theater company from Beja, opened applications for BACA on March 24 and received until April 15 about 40 proposals, distributed by projects in the areas of music, dance and theater.
“We would probably have to leave many artists and creators from Alentejo out, but the support of CADAC and the Regional Directorate for Culture of Alentejo is yet another oxygen balloon” for the process, explained António Revez, artistic director of Lendias d'Encantar .
Even so, the official adds that “it will be difficult to contract all the artistic proposals received and receivable”.
The Alentejo Regional Directorate for Culture expressed interest in the Lendias d'Encantar initiative, reiterating “the relevance of this scholarship in the current context experienced by the cultural sector in the Alentejo Region” and congratulating LdE for being able to “give this answer – encouragement and courage – so that in the medium term the activity is resumed in the best possible way ”.
Now being a partnership between the three entities, the selection and screening of the projects presented will also be carried out by those involved. The intention is to “cover territorial equity” in order to cover the entire region of Alentejo.
Proposals by artists and creators from Alentejo must be sent until April 30, to the e-mail [email protected]
