The Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, revealed today that in the screening for covid-19 in schools carried out during the two weeks of school interruption, 25 positive cases were registered among about 13 thousand employees.
In the parliamentary committee on Education, Science, Youth and Sports, where he is being heard, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues stated that among the 12,800 antigen tests carried out in the reference schools to welcome teachers and non-teachers, only 25 were positive, equivalent to about 0.2%.
Before the school break, screening had already been carried out in schools located in extreme risk counties, with more than 960 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the accumulated of the last 14 days.
According to the minister, in the scope of these screenings, which allowed to test three thousand secondary school students and employees, 25 cases of infection by SARS-Cov-2 were also detected.
The official referred to these figures to justify the argument repeated several times during the hearing, which still follows, that schools are safe places.
