The contract for the construction and expansion of the Silves EB1 began at the end of January. The intervention, whose investment amounts to 1.8 million euros, has an estimated duration of 14 months and includes the creation of 12 classrooms, a computer room, sanitary facilities for students, teachers and employees, and the reorganization of spaces outdoors, with the creation of a games area for physical activity and recreation.
The municipality of Silves stresses that «this type of intervention; which was subject to consultation, with a favorable opinion, from all stakeholders, including the Silves School Group and the Parents' Association, did not allow the maintenance of the existing building due to serious and irreparable damage existing (resulting from underground settlements) ), which is why the municipality was forced to choose to demolish the old building '.
«The completion of this work is a key factor for improving the conditions of the teaching-learning process and for the school and educational success of the students», says Rosa Palma, Mayor of Silves. «Education presents itself as a priority axis of municipal policy and, in this context, it has been current practice in the municipality to provide permanent support to the 24 schools in the municipality. This intervention has been reflected in a series of lines of action, both in the field of maintenance and improvement of physical spaces, in the supply of computer equipment and didactic-pedagogical material, in the retrofitting of classrooms and in the supply of furniture, and in the management school transport and bus transfers, the allocation of economic aid and scholarships, the support of the family and the provision of technical personnel from the psychology sector ”, concludes the mayor.
