Musician Carlão, also known as Da Weasel's “Pacmam”, will be at Silves Secondary School, today, October 8th, to talk to the students of this school. The activity, organized by the Silves City Council through its Silves Municipal Library (BMS) and in collaboration with the school, will take place in the auditorium, starting at 2:30 pm and is intended for 9th grade and secondary school students. a maximum capacity of 150 students.
“Livres e Iguais” is the project that will give shape to this session with the students, a pedagogical project to promote Interculturalism (developed by the company Betweien in partnership with the musician Carlão, the SOS Racismo Association and the Portuguese Refugee Council). ), which has the 'purpose of raising awareness and ending any kind of discrimination based on ignorance and hatred'.
This project has given rise to a book that addresses issues such as Racism, Ethnic Discrimination and Xenophobia, “giving readers the knowledge and tools they need to combat themselves and those around them, attitudes and behaviors. 'explains the organization of the initiative. We also present some tools for reflection and self-knowledge, theoretical and legal framework and some statistical data, as well as three fictionalized stories and the lyrics of three themes music by Carlão on these themes. This book will be offered to all 150 students participating in the action.
This initiative is part of the activities foreseen within the scope of the educational offer for schools prepared by the municipality and in the particular case, the BMS, seeking to promote not only reading, but also the values of solidarity and respect for others.
Carlão is the son of Cape Verdean parents, was born in Angola and traveled to Portugal in the same year of his birth, 1975. Between 1993 and 2009, under the pseudonym “Pacman”, he was one of the vocalists and the main lyricist of “Da Weasel”. . After the end of “Da Weasel”, in 2010 and 2011, he recorded two albums with the band “Os Dias De Raiva” and, soon after, embarked on the project “Cotton”. At the end of 2013, he enters the studio with Fred Ferreira and Regula, and under his usual name – Carlão – records the album “5-30”, which was released in 2014 and marks a return to closer sounds to Hip-Hop. Hop and what he had done with “Da Weasel". In 2015, Carlão edited an album in his own name titled “Forty.” The success of the first single “Os Tais”, heavily played by the most listened radios in the country, makes it immediately requested for an intense concert schedule.In 2016, together with Boss Ac, he created the general theme of the sociological program “If It Were With You”, by Conceição Lino. “Needle In The Haystack” and “Live Forever” ”, The singles released in 2017 and playing on national radio, are the first advances of their second album of originals, to be published in 2018.
