The Municipal Civil Protection Service of São Brás de Alportel has conducted drills in all schools in the county since March, preparing the school community for emergency situations.
In the context of the municipal awareness program "The School and the Risks", simulacra were carried out with scenarios of fire situations in schools, which forced the total evacuation of the 11 buildings that constitute the José Belchior Viegas School Group.
The exercises involved the participation of the Group of Schools, Municipal Civil Protection Service, Fire Brigade, GNR and Care Unit in the Alportellus Community and allowed to test procedures and behaviors of about 1,576 students, teachers and employees of the entire School Group José Belchior Viegas .
The purpose of these activities is to "test the internal security structure and emergency response capacity of educational institutions", and this type of exercise is used to identify possible needs for improvement according to the risks, according to the local authority.
This work has been carried out annually and continuously for some years, "with great success, providing a great feeling of security to the entire educational community.
"It is fundamental to ensure the safety of educational institutions and at the same time promote education for civil protection, with our children and young people," says the president of the São Brás de Alportel City Council, Vitor Guerreiro.
