Six Algarve players are part of the 13 Portuguese team that will compete in the Portugal Pro Golf Tour (PPGT) Tour Championship between today and Sunday, 15 to 17, at the Troia Golf Resort.
João Carlota, Tomás Melo Gouveia, Hugo Santos, Gonçalo Pinto, Francisco Oliveira and Vítor Lopes are the players of the Algarve present in the most important tournament ever of this international circuit for golf professionals, sanctioned by PGA of Portugal, Portuguese Golf Federation and British Jamega Pro Golf Tour.
In total, the event has 54 participants, from Portugal, England, Holland, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Sweden, who will fight for a global monetary prize of 20 thousand euros, double the 10 thousand that normally constitute " prize-money 'of a regular round of this circuit.
The Troia Golf Resort will be a perfect stage for the conclusion of the circuit, after 21 tournaments held in Portugal, especially in the Algarve, between November and March.
The best prize of the Tour Championship consists of the offer of five invitations to tournaments of the Challenge Tour of 2019, the second European division, where each tournament distributes at least 180 thousand euros in prizes.
These five invitations will go to the top Tour Championship but not necessarily the winner of the competition, as it is imperative that you have reached this last championship in the top 50 of the PPGT ranking.
Of the 13 Portuguese in the race, none is a member of the Challenge Tour, although some know they will be invited to play in the European second division. Therefore, for any of them, the five wild cards are more valuable than the prize of 4 thousand Euros for the triumph in the tournament that is disputed in the county of Grândola.
Nine of the Portuguese in the race managed to collect top-10 tournament rankings over the course of the season, most notably the Algarve's Hugo Santos (six). João Carlota was the best Portuguese in the previous tournament, ranked 5th in the Amendoeira O'Connor in Silves.
