Thirty young Algarve students finalists from the Youth Parliament program visited the Assembly of the Republic today, at the invitation of the Socialist deputies elected by the Algarve Luís Graça and Jamila Madeira.

It is "one of the most gratifying initiatives to promote citizenship and democracy," said Luís Graça.

The parliamentarians were the hosts of students from Faro, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira, Olhão, Albufeira and Lagoa, accompanied by their teachers, in an initiative supported by IPDJ and the city of são-brasense.

The national session of the Youth Parliament had 130 "student deputies" from 65 schools elected at district and regional sessions.

These young people come to represent 474 registered schools from all over the country, as well as from Portuguese schools in Europe and Out of Europe circles, from the 10th to the 12th year of schooling.

This year's theme is "Climate Change: Reverting Global Warming" and 22 draft recommendations were discussed today.

"It is an occasion to celebrate the commitment of all those involved in this process in each of the phases of the program in order to achieve its objectives: promoting democratic debate, respect for diversity of opinion and rules of decision-making , education for citizenship and for civic and political participation, "said the Socialist deputies from the Algarve.

The ceremony was attended by Vice-President of the Assembly of the Republic Jorge Lacão, the President of the Commission of Education and Science, Alexandre Quintanilha, and the Assistant Secretary of State and Mobility, José Mendes.
