A team of students from the Francisco Fernandes Lopes Secondary School in Olhão participated in SUR URBAN RACE, a solar electric vehicle competition held in Huelva (Spain).
The event was organized by the University of Huelva in collaboration with the Department of Electrotechnical Engineering of the Higher Institute of Engineering of the University of the Algarve, aiming to encourage students of secondary education and vocational training in the southwest of the Iberian peninsula to study technical and scientific subjects, as well as them of science, technology and innovation.
The University of Algarve was invited to join this initiative, inviting the schools of the Algarve region and supporting the construction of the prototypes.
Thus, Fábio Silva, Filipe Soares and Hugo do Carmo, three students from the Francisco Fernandes Lopes Secondary School, under the guidance of Professor Emanuel Bettencourt, formed the NEXT 21 team and accepted the challenge of constructing a prototype for the competition. technical support of Jorge Semião, a professor at UAlg.
The Municipality of Olhão also joined this initiative, having supported the NEXT 21 team in the purchase of batteries, a solar panel and some building materials.
