Surf: Toledo is away in Peniche and leaves Medina closer to becoming champion

The Brazilian surfer Filipe Toledo was eliminated today in the third round of the Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal, 10th and penultimate stage of the world circuit, leaving compatriot Gabriel Medina with more possibilities to be champion in Portugal.

The unexpected defeat of Toledo against Frenchman Joan Duru allows Medina to become champion of the circuit, which already won in 2014, if he wins in Peniche and the Australian Julian Wilson, third of the hierarchy, not reach the semi-finals.

Toledo, second in the ranking, ended up losing to the French in the last maneuver, adding 12.10 points (5.43 and 6.67), insufficient compared to the 12.50 (6.50 and 6.00) obtained by Duru.

Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal's waiting period lasts until October 27, at Supertubos beach in Peniche, Leiria district.
