The average global / quarter occupancy rate in March 2019 in the Algarve was 53.7%, similar to the figure recorded in the same period of last year, thanks to the contribution of the Swedish and French markets.
According to the Algarve Association of Hotels and Tourist Enterprises (AHETA), since the beginning of the year the fourth occupancy rate has registered an average increase of 0.5%.
In relation to the month of March 2019, the average occupancy rate in its hotel units decreased by only 0.1% compared to the third month of 2018.
The Swedish markets, which almost doubled the number of tourists in the region (+ 47.3%), and French (+ 20.5%) were the ones that showed the highest increases last month, helping to maintain the stable occupation rate .
On the other hand, the Spanish (-37.0%), Portuguese (-15.7%) and Irish (-12.9%) markets showed the largest declines.
As regards sales volume, it fell by 6% compared to the same month of the previous year.
"The Easter period has affected occupancy rates and sales this month," says AHETA in a statement to the media.
