Tavira celebrates «Senior Month» in October - Jornal diariOnline Southern Region


October, the month dedicated to seniors, will be celebrated in Tavira with a set of informative, educational and cultural activities aimed at increasing the participation of the senior population in the life of the community.

Providing a livelier month, with a view to valuing active aging, is another goal of the agenda promoted by the Tavira Social Network, within the scope of the Senior Age Group (GIS).

The celebrations start on Wednesday, October 2, in an afternoon full of animation and popular Portuguese music, at Mercado da Ribeira.

October 9th is dedicated to the theater, with a musical comedy that emphasizes popular culture at Mercado da Ribeira.

The morning of October 16 is oriented towards a reflection on health and aging, with a formative meeting, at the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library, in collaboration with the International Center on Aging (CENIE).

The afternoon of Wednesday, the 23rd, in the garden of the Bandstand, is reserved for an ethnographic parade, with a view to remember the experiences and celebrate the social representations of the main activities of the participants.

On the morning of the 27th, there is an intergenerational walk, starting from Largo da Igreja, in Santa Luzia, within the framework of the Physical Activity Promotion Program of the municipality of Tavira, with a view to raising awareness and valuing active and healthy aging.

On October 30, the program ends with the Senior Gala at Hotel Vila Galé Tavira, starting at 12:00 pm.

Emphasis will be given to the recognition of volunteers aged 65 and over, in a perspective of valuing civic participation.

In addition, in the course of the month, entities working closely with the senior population and aiming to consolidate a perspective of openness to the community and interinstitutional cooperation, streamline 'Days Open to the Community', a set of diverse actions.
