The Municipal Museum of Tavira is one of about 50 institutions that participate in the exhibition «Guerreiros e Mártires. Christianity and Islam in the formation of Portugal », shown at the National Museum of Ancient Art until February 28, 2021.
This collaboration was accomplished through the loan of ten archaeological pieces, some of them shown in the exhibition «Tavira Islâmica», by the Islamic Museum Nucleus.
The pieces that will be on display in the exhibition come from various archaeological excavations, carried out in the city of Tavira, and can be marked between the 11th and 13th century AD, centuries referring to the Islamic presence in Portugal.
Among the pieces in question, we highlight an ink cartridge that has five overlays on the upper side to contain the inks; a tile fragment with a propitiatory inscription and a rock tower fragment with anthropomorphic representation.
