In order to resume its cultural activity, maintaining the security measures required by the pandemic period, the municipality of Lagos recovered the concept of drive in, a successful model made in the 50s and 60s. Lacobrigense summer gains a new dimension with concerts of local artists and bands whose genres include Rock, Pop, Fado, Popular Music, but also open-air cinema sessions.
«The idea is that the public can enjoy shows and films in the comfort and safety of their vehicles», highlights the municipality. The “Drive in Lagos” is free and will take place at the Rossio da Trindade Games Field between August 1 and September 5, at 9:30 pm, subject to mandatory prior registration.
In a pandemic period of the covid-19 in which social distance is one of the greatest weapons to combat the spread of the virus, the Lacobrigense autarchy revived the concept. That way, residents and visitors can enjoy good music and good cinema in a moment of leisure in the community, without ever leaving the safety of their vehicle.
The concert program will feature bands and artists connected to Lagos who will liven up Saturday nights (two bands or artists per Saturday) through genres that appeal to all tastes. All of these artists were part of the “Lagos at home with music” initiative through the publication of music videos and motivational messages on the municipality's facebook page throughout the pandemic months.
In the cinema sessions on Wednesday, there are suggestions for all ages, from this year's oscar “Parasitas”, to the classic “Cinema Paraíso” by Giuseppe Tornatore, in homage to Maestro Ennio Morricone, and to the success of João Maia “ Variations. Children and young people will also not be forgotten with the exhibition of box office hits for these age groups, such as "Marnie and Friends" and "The Hunger Games: The Hunger Games".
The space chosen for this cultural activity was the Games Field of Rossio da Trindade (former football field of Trindade), recovered for its realization, and it has the capacity to house about 100 light vehicles. On-site, street vending of food and drink and bathrooms will also be available.
Ensuring everyone's safety, the municipality will have some safety measures in place: the entrance and exit will have their own separate circuits, being carried out according to the guidelines of assistants in the enclosure; the vehicles will have a distance of 2 meters (through the signage and physical distance marking); spectators must remain inside the vehicles, only being allowed to leave for use of the toilets or in case of any urgent needs
Despite being free to access, given the capacity of the venue, the municipality will make a simple online form available weekly for registration in the concerts or cinema sessions of your choice.
The “Drive in Lagos” will take place between August 1 and September 5 at the Rossio da Trindade Games Field, at 9:30 pm, with the performance of two bands on Saturday and the showing of a film on Wednesday.
