The internet stopped to see the photograph of the black hole. But did not spare the memes - Multimedia



It was yesterday revealed for the first time in history the photograph of a black hole, a phenomenon invisible to the human eye. The image was the result of a collaboration involving eight telescopes and a team of more than 200 scientists from 14 countries gathered at the Event Horizon Telescope.

The revealed picture is, for the time being, the closest we can get to a black hole without being swallowed by its gravitational pull. However, the image is less impressive than many of the illustrations we have become accustomed to seeing, especially in animations in movies and games. As such, the internet wasted no time to play around with the subject.

The usual memes came up immediately on social networks like Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. From comparisons with Lord of the Rings Sauron's eye to references to Brexit, there have been many memes shared since the first real photograph of the black hole was released. We show some of these memes in the photogallery below.
