After a month of holidays, the Lagos Friends Group Thursday Meetings return to the Dr. Júlio Dantas Municipal Library on 5th, at 5 pm, for another reflection on “Living in Community”; and because a new school year is beginning, about “the Lagos School at the Service of Students”.
The questions arise:
Will the School be as much at the service of the students as it should and could be? Or are the students used instead to serve other purposes, leaving their training to secondary level? Is it empowering schools to use new models that free students from the burden of unnecessary and overpowering backpacks, teach them how to memorize, tell and be interested in learning, behaving in society, being helpful and responsible? Will the various existing commissions serve more than filling the ego of those who belong to them? When will pupils stop being used in actions where schools and competent authorities are interested in what those actions reveal not to have worried them?
The Group of Friends of Lagos "wishes these and other commonly raised issues to be overcome and intends to help new ways be indicated and followed in order to better serve students and the whole community." The heads of both school groups and the local authorities were invited to attend, contributing their experience and interest in enriching the Meeting, which will last one hour, with free admission.
