Political commentator Luís Marques Mendes said in his televised opinion space in SIC's "Jornal da Noite" that "the standards of demand of Portuguese society were different, they were different", analyzing the controversy the appointments of family members within the current Government.

"In previous governments there have been a lot of appointments and that was a mistake," said the commentator, noting that he was also part of these social democratic executives in the days of Cavaco Silva as prime minister.

Luís Marques Mendes emphasized that "the errors of the past must be assumed, but they do not justify the errors of the present".

"There should have been even more care," said the commentator, criticizing the position of Prime Minister António Costa on this controversy.

"I find it strange that at the end of these weeks the rulers have not yet recognized this error," warned Luís Marques Mendes.

On the long-running Brexit case, Marques Mendes believes that the UK's exit attempt will work for the future as a "vaccine" because, as the 27 EU countries are united on this issue, no other country will want to cross these problems.
