There are more retired than workers in 23% of the counties of the continent of Portugal, reveals this Tuesday the "Jornal de Notícias" (JN) based on data provided by the Institute of Social Security.
"How can they have economic and social dynamics? (…) We can not convert the working age population into retired people, "Ana Alexandre Fernandes, president of the Portuguese Demographic Association, told the Porto newspaper.
Trás-os-Montes, Beira Interior and Alentejo are the municipalities where the largest number of retired people are due to old age, according to JN. Albufeira already has three workers for each retired, followed by Lousada and Paços de Ferreira.
Last week, the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security advanced to the news agency Lusa that there will be 2,237 Caixa Geral de Aposentações pensions with recalculation and retroactive payment in August, following a decision of the Constitutional Court that implied revision of the reforms granted since 2013.
Minister José António Vieira da Silva said in parliament that the measure will have an impact of 13.5 million euros this year. According to the official, in August, the pensioners will receive the value of the new pension, along with the retroactives related to the correction of the values.
