The 47th edition of the Volta ao Algarve, scheduled for February 17th to 21st, 2021, is deserving of increased interest on the part of the international platoon, with the organization adding more than 30 foreign teams interested in participating.

“So far, 30 foreign teams, 16 of whom from WorldTour, have asked for an invitation to participate in the Portuguese race of the ProSeries circuit”, says the Portuguese Cycling Federation, organizer of «Algarvia».

“The quality of the organization, the international media coverage of the event, the excellent quality of the hotel industry in the Algarve and the security of the destination Portugal, particularly the Algarve, in a time of pandemic”, justify this interest of some of the main formations of the international squad.

The Portuguese Cycling Federation, organizer of the Volta ao Algarve, will, in the coming weeks, define the race squad, taking into account the 16 top category teams, WorldTeam, but also the Portuguese continental formations and the ProTeam level sets that requested invitation.

In 2020, Volta ao Algarve was the second best race on the ProSeries circuit due to the quality of the peloton and the 17th best, also including the WorldTour, World and European events.

The quality of Volta ao Algarve attracts great national and international media coverage. The 2020 edition had, in Portugal, a media coverage with an estimated return by Cision at more than 11 million euros. Outside Portugal, in addition to live television broadcasting to 83 countries on four continents, 1275 news were recorded about the Volta ao Algarve.

The global media coverage of the race means that the Algarve "brand" has a peak of worldwide notoriety during the event.

In 2020, the search for the word «Algarve» worldwide in the week of the Volta ao Algarve was only surpassed by searches during the summer, the peak of the tourist offer in the region.
