Three Algarve municipalities are among the finalists nominated for the Municipalities of the Year Awards – Portugal 2018, whose delivery ceremony is scheduled for November 16, at the Paço dos Duques de Bragança, in Guimarães.
The municipalities of Albufeira, Alcoutim and Loulé are the finalists in the category "Municipality of the Year Algarve 2018", also being nominated for the grand final prize.
Albufeira is applying for the project of the Elderly Working Group, Alcoutim with the Contraband Festival and Loulé with the exhibition «Territórios. Memoirs. Identities.
The contest aims to recognize the good practices of projects implemented by municipalities with impact on the territory, the economy and society, promoting growth, inclusion and sustainability.
Placing on the agenda the theme of territorialisation of development, based on the action of local authorities, and valuing diverse realities that include cities and low density territories in different regions are other goals.
The organization belongs to the University of Minho, through the UM-Cidades platform, and to the municipality of Guimarães. The 5th edition counted on 56 applications, being named projects of 35 municipalities.
