Portuguese rowers Pedro Fraga and Afonso Costa in LM2x were able to qualify for the final on the first day of the rowing World Cup, which takes place until Sunday in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
The Portuguese duo made the second best result of the qualifiers, with a time of 6.17.06 minutes, and goes to the final, scheduled for today, guaranteeing already the best result of the Portuguese delegation of five athletes in the first stage of the race.
The Portuguese Dinis Costa won today the final B in the class LM1x ('single scull') in the Rowing World Cup, with the time of 7.15.21 minutes. The Portuguese rower won the competition in a comfortable way, finishing with a faster record than two of the athletes who played in the final A, which gives access to medals.
Joana Branco and Inês Oliveira finished fifth and last in a time of 7.37.78 minutes, more than 30 seconds behind the double winner, the Chinese team Xiaoyu Yuan and Jiawang Zou, in the repechage in LW2x ('double sculls').
On Sunday they will compete in the B final, the same day that Pedro Fraga and Afonso Costa will compete for the medals in LM2x, after having achieved the second best qualifying result on Friday.
After Plovdiv, the World Cup will take the second stage in Poznan, Poland, in June, followed by Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in July.
