Three Portuguese qualified yesterday for the last two rounds of the 14th Portugal Masters, which ends on Sunday at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course, in Vilamoura, which happens for the third time in 14 years and for the second year in a row.
In a two-hole-in-one day, Tomás Bessa and the two famous national golf Ricardos – Santos and Melo Gouveia – were the heroes of the second round, allowing them to match the national record of more national golfers in the last two rounds of the tournament , repeating the 2012 and 2019 seasons.
The Frenchman Julien Guérrier leads the tournament, of one million euros in monetary prizes, with 128 strokes, 14 below the "par", after rounds 62 and 66.
Tomás Bessa remains in the group of 26th classified, with 138 (-4), Ricardo Santos among the 40th classified (140, -2) and Ricardo Melo Gouveia is one of the 56th (141, -1).
“I am very happy to be playing the last two days of this tournament, it is the first time at the Portugal Masters and it is the third time that I play this tournament. I am very happy because I have the opportunity to climb the ranking ”, said Tomás Bessa, a native of Paredes but resident in the Algarve.
For the Algarvian Ricardo Santos, it will be the fourth time to play at the Vilamoura tournament at the weekend, after 2010, 2012 and 2018. “It was certainly one of the most satisfying moments of the season, because it ended this way today . It's a special moment, being able to get around and taking into account that I don't have a very good memory of the last two holes. But today I managed to overcome that and I am very satisfied ”, he considered.
Ricardo Melo Gouveia, an Algarve resident in the United Kingdom, qualified for the last two laps in Vilamoura for the eighth time, the seventh consecutive. “My game is very solid, the iron shots, the wood, only the drive is still not 100%. I am confident that this weekend I can do two great laps ”, he said.
Filipe Lima («par» of the tournament), Vítor Londot Lopes (+1), Pedro Figueiredo (+6), Pedro Lencart (+7) and Miguel Gaspar (+14) missed the «cut».
The 14th Portugal Masters continues today, Saturday, with the penultimate lap, starting at 7:50 am, with departures from hole 1 only and now with groups of two players instead of three.
