Two-wheel and quadricycle market increased by 2.3% in September


According to data obtained by ACAP – Associação Automóvel de Portugal, in September 2020, the market for official brand representatives operating in Portugal, for new two-wheel vehicles, tricycles and quadricycles, grew by 2.3 per cent. percent compared to the same month of the previous year, having registered 3,543 units.

In cumulative terms, in the nine months of 2020, 26,256 vehicles were registered in Portugal, which corresponded to a year-on-year decrease in the number of units registered by 6.1 percent.

In an individualized analysis by the main types of vehicles, it is observed that the market for new mopeds registered by the official representatives of the brands totaled 220 units in September 2020, having presented a negative variation of 1.8 percent compared to the same month of 2019.

In the first nine months of the year, 1,458 mopeds were registered, which translated into a 12.5 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.

With regard to the motorcycle market, in September 2020, 3,205 motorcycles were registered in Portugal, representing an increase of 1.7 percent compared to the same month of 2019.

In cumulative terms, from January to September 2020, the number of registered units decreased 5.3 percent compared to the same period last year, with 24,046 new motorcycles being put into circulation.

Regarding motorcycles with a cylinder capacity up to 125 cm3, in September 2020, there were a total of 1,753 units registered in Portugal, which represented a drop of 1.8 percent compared to the same month of 2019.

As for the cumulative number of motorcycles up to 125 cm3 registered in the three quarters of 2020, this stood at 13,152 units, which represented a decrease of 1.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

With regard to motorcycles with a cylinder capacity greater than 125 cm3 put into circulation for the first time in Portugal, in September 2020, there were a total of 1,452 units, which represented an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the same month in 2019.

In cumulative terms, from January to September 2020, registrations for this type of vehicles totaled 10,894 units, which translated into a 9.1 percent drop compared to the same period in 2019.

As for the quad bike market, in September 2020, there is no variation in comparison with the same month of the previous year. Thus, in September 2020, 74 new quadricycles were put into circulation by the official brand representatives.

In the first nine months of 2020, quadricycle enrollments fell by 23.4 percent over the same period last year, with 587 quadricycles enrolled.
