The University of Algarve continues to provide support to 161 students during the suspension of teaching activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, through accommodation, food distribution and psychological support.
Of the 161 students, 44 are of Portuguese nationality and 117 are of other nationalities, the most represented being Brazilian, the institution revealed in a statement.
UAlg's Social Action Services (SAS) remain in daily contact with these students, either by phone or by email, also guaranteeing the cleaning of spaces (collection of dirty clothes and delivery of washed clothes) and the distribution of foodstuffs.
The online psychological support and monitoring provided by the Psychology and Psychopedagogical Support office is also guaranteed, since these students “miss social and family support at a particularly difficult time”.
Such online support can be extended, under the "counseling" regime, to new requests from other UAlg students. For this purpose, if necessary, they should contact the office by email [email protected]
UAlg also provided two apartments to accommodate students of the Integrated Master in Medicine, who are supporting the SNS24 line.
The SAS will continue to monitor the evolution of this crisis situation, both in terms of diagnosing social intervention and socio-economic conditions, adapting, whenever necessary, new action measures.
The University of Algarve also affirms that it is proceeding with teaching activities through distance learning, "with a growing adhesion by both students and teachers".
The Covid-19 pandemic has already infected some 464,000 people in more than 190 countries and regions, causing more than 20,900 deaths.
In Portugal, which has been in a state of emergency since March 19, the Directorate-General for Health recorded, until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, 24, 2,995 cases of infection (62 in the Algarve) and 43 deaths (one in the Algarve region).
