UEFA reaffirms Lisbon for the Champions League final stage and removes plan B


The President of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, reaffirmed today, after meeting by videoconference with the Prime Minister, António Costa, that Lisbon has the necessary conditions to receive the final phase of the Champions League and removed “a plan B”.

In this meeting on the final phase of the football Champions League, which will take place in the Portuguese capital, in August, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) also participated, Fernando Gomes, and the Minister of Education, Tiago Brandão Rodrigues.

In the final communiqué of the meeting, to which the Lusa agency had access, it is stated that the different parties “stressed that they are fully committed to working together to successfully carry out this event in Lisbon”.

According to the same statement, the Portuguese Government, UEFA and FPF noted that this will be an unprecedented tournament and that “presents great challenges, but reinforced their belief that the necessary conditions will be present in Portugal to host the UEFA Champions League games scheduled for the 2019/20 season ”.

During the meeting, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin thanked António Costa for his dedication to this sporting project and said he was confident that the framework of “constant collaboration” between the parties will continue ”, with a view to“ conclude positively ”the Champions League in Lisbon.

"There is no need for any plan B," said the UEFA president.

The Prime Minister, on the other hand, congratulated UEFA on reiterating its full commitment to carry out the final phase of the football Champions League in Lisbon.

At the meeting, António Costa also shared “a detailed update on the situation of covid-19 in Portugal” and stressed that “all measures are being taken to ensure that the country will receive the faucet with security conditions”.
