UK: Law enters into force to bar minors from porn sites - Internet

In the UK, pornographic sites will no longer be freely accessible. After several delays in implementing the law, the government confirms that the age verification system will take effect on July 15. Under the new rules, on British soil, Internet users will always be required to prove that they are over 18 years of age, in order to access pornographic material. To do this, you will need to enter your credit card, passport, phone number or purchase an old verification pass at a local store.

Free video hosting sites like Pornhub and YouPorn will be impacted by this new guideline, just like paid content creators. Non-implementation of the system provides for blocking of sites in the UK.

In response to the news, MindGeek, a company that owns sites such as Pornhub, Redtube or Brazzers, has already confirmed that it is working on a system that is in line with the requirements of the British executive.

The UK is the first country to implement such a law. MEPs argue in favor of it, justifying its approval that online pornography is "too easy to access". However, on the other side of the barricade, critics point out that this law will generate records with very sensitive personal data, the leak of which could result in disaster.
