The Hotelaria do Algarve Trade Union announced today the call for a regional strike for the hotel, catering and similar sectors of the Algarve, on August 1, at the height of summer.
"This decision arises because the employers of the sector (AIHSA and AHETA) continue to refuse salary increases that restore lost purchasing power in recent years and promote a better distribution of the wealth created by workers," said the Union of Workers of the Industry. Hotels, Tourism, Restaurants and Similar in the Algarve, in a statement, following the meeting held this Thursday.
The union stresses that "it can not accept" that workers are "the only ones not to benefit from the excellent results of tourism" and, at the same time, that the bosses continue "to want to diminish and / or withdraw rights already consecrated".
The Hotelaria do Algarve Trade Union considers the proposed law of the current PS government under discussion in the Assembly of the Republic "unacceptable," which to be approved would accentuate the exploration even more.
In addition to the strike, a concentration was also scheduled for the same day in Faro, near the union headquarters, at 4:00 p.m.
