The main group of singles from the Vale do Lobo Open Magnesium-K Active starts to play today, Wednesday, with six Portuguese tennis players present, after the Portuguese tennis players stayed along the way in the "qualifying".

Nuno Borges (366th ATP), Gastão Elias (379th), Tiago Cação (552th), Luís Faria (803th), Pedro Araújo (1321th) and Tiago Torres (1954th) will be in action starting at 10:30 am, in the fast-paced «courts» of Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy, in Loulé.

On Tuesday, the two Portuguese who still had a chance of reaching the main board were eliminated by top rated players: playing the first international tournament since February last year, João António lost 6-0 and 6-1 to the ex – «top-70» ATP Kenny de Schepper, while Gonçalo Falcão offered more resistance, but also lost (6-1 and 6-3) against a French tennis player, Ugo Blanchet.

The remaining hours of the day were devoted to the first round of the doubles table, which saw 11 tennis players from the «home» in competition.

Of them, only one went ahead: Gonçalo Falcão, who, alongside Slovenian Tomas Lipovsek Puches, confirmed his status as second seed when beating compatriots João António and Illia Stoliar, 6-1 and 6-0.

The first international tournament of the year in Portugal is organized by Premier Sports with the support of the Portuguese Tennis Federation and ends on Sunday, 28, with $ 25,000 in prize money at stake.
