The VII Mediterranean Diet Fair, organized by Tavira City Council in partnership with various entities, was inaugurated yesterday afternoon in downtown Tavira with the main purpose of celebrating traditional gastronomy – using endogenous products from the region and Portugal, as well as other Mediterranean basin countries represented at the event – not forgetting the cultural usages and customs and "defending the identity of peoples"as Maria do Céu Albuquerque, Secretary of State for Administrative Modernization, said to be present at the opening of the event.
Speaking to diariOnline South Region newspaper, Ana Paula Martins, acting mayor of Tavira, replacing Jorge Botelho who is a candidate for the Legislative Elections, began by saying that "We have a full city … The hotel units are very busy, almost sold out … This year we also had more demand from producers, artisans and exhibitors … I hope this is a very successful fair …"
Within the framework of MedFest, sustainable food tourism festival promoted by the In Loco Association, one of the organizers of the Mediterranean Diet Fair, the members of the delegation were challenged, with an accepted invitation, to cook their own dinner, in a sustainable dining experience.
As far as musical animation is concerned, yesterday on the main stage of the VII Mediterranean Diet Fair, in Praça da República, Pedro Abrunhosa performed, today, acts Silvia Perez Cruz from Spain, tomorrow the 7th acts the fado singer Katia Guerreiro, and on the 8th “Nação Valente” takes the stage with Sérgio Godinho, Camané and Manuela Azevedo.
