Vila Real de Santo António joins the festivities in honor of Nossa Senhora das Angustias, which take place from 5 to 9 September in Ayamonte (Spain).
The initiative takes place this Wednesday, September 4, and begins with the reception of the Spanish delegation at the VRSA boarding pier at 19:00 hours.
After the road to Praça Marquês de Pombal, a Portuguese and Spanish band will play the national anthems in front of Vila Real de Santo António, where the flag-raising ceremony will take place and the welcome session will take place. , conducted by the mayors of VRSA and Ayamonte.
This is followed by a new route to the VRSA embarkation pier where the delegation will make the river crossing from the Guadiana River to Ayamonte.
In the Spanish town, the ceremony continues with a parade to the Ayuntamiento headquarters, once again playing the anthems of both countries.
The initiative ends with solemn speeches and the official opening of the Angustian festivities, which will be symbolically marked by the inauguration of the lighting of the Ayamontina pilgrimage enclosure, an act popularly dubbed the “el encendido del alumbrado”.
