It is a historic moment for the Sports Group Cova-Gala and for the parish of São Pedro, in Figueira da Foz. This week, work began on laying a synthetic turf at the Cabedelo Games Park, one of the last bare (clay) fields in the district of Coimbra, the only one that was still used in senior football competitions in the city. Coimbra Football Association (AFC).
Inaugurated in 1977, the “house” of Cova-Gala will undergo an intervention that arrives three months late. At this moment, earthmoving works are already underway so that Cabedelo can have a new floor and a new “image”.
“It was expected that the works would have started at the end of December, but the covid-19 and the rain did not allow this to be possible”, told the DIÁRIO AS BEIRAS the president of Cova-Gala, Cláudio Henriques.
“We are going to put a synthetic floor in the most well-known and the only one in senior AFC competitions”, highlighted the leader.
The intervention should last between “two to three months” and the club's ambition, in addition to the new ground for the meetings, also includes works on the bench and in the enclosure's parking lot, “for now, only the synthetic is budgeted, but we want to see if we can also arrange the benches and the parking lot ”, he stressed.
