The trade unions representing the workers of Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) decided to hold the strike scheduled for Wednesday, after a meeting with the Government, in which it was not possible to "reach an agreement", according to the Fectrans coordinator.
"There was no agreement. It is a process that will take some time. There was very little progress, "Jose Manuel Oliveira, coordinator of the Federation of Transport and Communications Trade Unions (Fectrans), told the Lusa news agency at the end of the meeting at the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructures.
Thus, he added, the reasons remain for the strike scheduled for Wednesday, which is expected to cause major disturbances in the movement of trains.
CP – Comboios de Portugal has already warned of "strong disturbances in traffic" due to the strike in the IP, in view of the prediction of "national train suppression in all services".
The company also warned that "alternative transportation will not be available".
The shutdown will have minimum services, defined by the arbitral tribunal, and signed by 14 trade union organizations.
In the minimum services, the routes to the destination of trains to circulate at the beginning of the strike, trains distressed and those carrying dangerous substances, jet fuel, coal and perishable goods are covered.
The workers demand that the management of the company and the Government materialize the collective bargaining agreement and agree on a regulation of careers.
The unions want "responses to union proposals from both the company and the government" regarding the negotiation of the collective bargaining agreement, José Manuel Oliveira said.
